Is Rahul Gandhi opting for experience?

It seems that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has already selected the next Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Tweeting out a picture of the frontrunners to the post – Ashok Gehlot and state party president Sachin Pilot, Gandhi captioned: “The united colors of Rajasthan!” However, sources have told that Ashok Gehlot will be the next Rajasthan chief minister and Sachin Pilot will be given the post of the deputy CM.

The Congress is expected to announce the name of the new Rajasthan chief minister around 4:30 pm. On Thursday, Gandhi had tweeted the picture of Madhya Pradesh chief ministerial candidates – Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia, before finally announcing the name of the former sometime later.

While Mr. Pilot is credited with reviving the party after its rout in 2013 Assembly polls and decimation in the Lok Sabha polls in 2014. The Hindu has learned that senior Congress leaders leaned on former party chief Sonia Gandhi to back Mr. Gehlot as they considered him better placed to run a coalition government, given the party’s wafer-thin lead in the 200-member Assembly.
