Just a few days after Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) carried out a suicide bombing that killed 40 Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) personnel, the neighbouring nation has criticised India over its stand on Kulbhushan Jadhav.

Mohammad Faisal, a spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan, questioned Indian government for accepting the confession video of Pulwama suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar but denying it in Jadhav’s case. Pakistan had earlier awarded death penalty to Jadhav on charges of being an Indian spy.

Indian authorities have maintained their stand on Jadhav, 48, who they said was kidnapped from Iran in 2016 and was falsely held on charges of being a spy.

Faisal further attacked the Indian government for accepting “unverified social media content” about JeM claims with regards to the terror attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama.

The comment comes on a day when top legal aides from both the countries will present their arguments in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case before the International Court of Justice in Hague, Netherlands.

This will be the first time India and Pakistan will confront each other after Thursday’s deadly attack on CRPF soldiers in south Kashmir’s Pulwama region. At least 40 soldiers were exactly killed in the attack.

Jadhav, a resident of Sangli in Maharashtra, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court over charges of espionage and terrorism in April 2017. After failing to obtain consular access to Jadhav, India had approached ICJ after the death penalty was awarded to the former naval officer.

However, a 10-member ICJ bench on May 18, 2017, had restrained Pakistan from executing Jadhav till adjudication of the case.

The latest public hearing in the Jadhav case has been scheduled at the ICJ from February 18-21. India will first put forth its arguments on February 17 while the neighbouring nation will make its submissions the next day.

India will again make its counter-argument in its reply on February 20 while Pakistan will make its closing submissions on February 21.
