They had never sought security in the first place, says Hurriyat !
After Kashmir government decided to remove the security cover of some of the separatist leaders, the Hurriyat Conference reacted by saying that t.
In a statement, the Hurriyat Conference stated: “The government decided on its own to provide security to separatist leaders which was never demanded in the first place. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in fact also said many times during his Friday sermons that he wanted withdrawal of the security cover.”
Other than Mirwaiz, the government on Sunday withdrew the security cover of four leaders including Abdul Ghani Bhat, Bilal Lone, and Shabir Shah. No security cover was provided to two other top separatist leaders, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The decision finally came into existence after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a high-level meeting in the national capital attended by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and Director of Intelligence Bureau. The meeting deliberated upon the situation after the deadly attack on CRPF convoy in Pulwama on Thursday.
These separatists were provided security cover years ago after a few of them were targeted in attacks.
