Niranjan Jyoti, better known as Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti (born in 1st March 1967) is an Indian politician belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She was appointed Minister of State for Agri-Food Industries in November 2014.
She represents Fatehpur district, Uttar Pradesh, in Lok Sabha, after winning the 2014 general election. She also represents Hamirpur constituency in the Legislature after winning the 2012 elections.
Life and career
Niranjan Jyoti was born in 1967 in Patewra village, Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh. His father was Achyutanand and his mother was Shiv Kali Devi. She was born into a family of Nishad castes.
On June 14, 2014, a man named Bhanu Patel and his three accomplices shot Jyoti while returning from a job at the Avas Vikas settlement in Lucknow. She escaped unscathed but her bodyguard was blessed.
Personal views and controversies
On December 1, 2014, at a public gathering, she said: "It is you who must decide whether the Delhi government will be ruled by the sons of Rama (raamzaade) or the bastards".
